Overview

OTDA oversees employment programs offered through your local department of social services. Employment and training services are provided to Temporary Assistance (TA) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) applicants and recipients to support participation in work activities that have been approved and assigned by the local department of social services.

Benefits

These services are designed to assist you in finding and keeping employment. The following are some of the services that may be available to you through your local department of social services:

  • Child care assistance for children up to age 13
  • Transportation assistance (public and private)
  • Adult basic education (high school equivalency preparation, English literacy, English as a Second Language instruction)
  • Vocational education
  • Job readiness training
  • Job skills training
  • Job search assistance and referrals
  • Work Experience
  • Subsidized/unsubsidized employment
  • On the job training
  • Work-related expenses (clothing, equipment, tools)
  • Workplace accommodations (assistance for individuals with work limitations to support participation in employment and training activities)
  • Transitional benefits (to provide supports once you become employed)

Eligibility

TA and SNAP applicants and recipients are determined eligible for employment and training services by their local department of social service.

There is no need to apply separately for employment and training services. Staff at your local department of social services will discuss with you the services available to support your participation in work activities that have been approved and assigned by the local department of social services.
