Description:

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Direct Services (SNAP-Ed III DS) is a federally funded program that teaches individuals how to shop for and cook healthy meals on a SNAP budget. The program provides skill-based nutrition education classes and sponsors obesity prevention events in local communities on a variety of topics like healthy eating on a budget, smart shopping for vegetables and fruit, healthy meal planning, basic cooking and food safety skills, weight control and physical activity. The goals of the SNAP-Ed New York program are to:

  • Eat more fruits and vegetables
  • Drink less sugar-sweetened beverages
  • Exercise more and balance calories eaten as part of a healthy lifestyle

The Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) is seeking to secure the services of not-for profit provider agencies to provide SNAP-Ed III Direct Services. $20,000,000 will be made available annually for a five-year contract term. Agencies can apply as a consortium or individually. Individual applicant agencies may request up to $1,000,000 per year. The lead agency in a consortium may request up to $1,500,000 annually, with each consortium member eligible to request up to $1,000,000.
