Wheels for Work programs assist TANF eligible individuals with obtaining personal vehicles and vehicle related services that are needed to get to and from employment. Wheels for Work services include affordable automobile loans, car donation programs, car repairs, car insurance and assistance with license and registration fees, drivers training and defensive driving, financial counseling, basic car care maintenance classes and child safety seats.
$154,983 of SFY 2010-2011 Wheels for Work funds were used to fund the Transportation Initiative. Thirteen (13) Social Service Districts were awarded Transportation Initiative funding in accordance with 12-LCM-11 to provide transportation services to TANF eligibles who are employed or participating in allowable employment activities. Social Service Districts collaborated with service providers from the public and private sectors to design a program to meet the transportation needs of TANF eligible individuals residing in their district. Services may include driver education, modified public transportation services, van pool programs, transit passes, gas cards, car repairs, license and registration fees, auto insurance and auto loan programs.
